Andretti’s Indy 500 Return Gives Michael A Strong Chance In May

Marco Andretti’s return to the Andretti Autosport fold for the 106th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge on May 30 gives his dad Michael a great opportunity to challenge for victory in the Greatest Spectacle In Racing.

Andretti Autosport has been extremely successful at the Brickyard in recent years with back to back victories with 2016 and 2017 with Alexander Rossi and Takuma Sato respectively.

Ryan Hunter Reay also took victory for the team in 2014 while Dario Franchitti won in 2007 and Dan Wheldon won in 2005.

As it stands, Andretti Autosport has five cars confirmed for the Indy 500 and we all now how strong Marco Andretti has been at the Speedway having come close to winning it on his debut in 2006 missing out to Sam Hornish Jr.

Andretti started the race from pole in 2020 and finished that years race in 13th place.

This year, Andretti Autosport has two oval rookies with Romain Grosjean having joined the team full-time from Dale Coyne Racing where he completed a partial road and street course programme while Devlin DeFrancesco makes his NTT IndyCar Series and Indianapolis 500 race debut.

The team also have Alexander Rossi and Colton Herta and are yet to confirm whether or not they will add a sixth car for the month of May.

The 2022 NTT IndyCar Series season gets underway next weekend with the Firestone Grand Prix presented by RP Funding.
