I Am Very Happy With Qualifying P4

Ed Carpenter Racing’s Rinus VeeKay had a fantastic qualifying for Sunday’s 2022 NTT IndyCar Series season-opening Firestone Grand Prix presented by RP Funding.

The Dutch driver rolls off P4 on Sunday and speaking following the action he said:

“I am very happy with qualifying, P4! First ever Firestone Fast 6 experience, very proud of the team. They gave me a great car! We had an amazing off-season to use as a base for this weekend. On to a great result tomorrow!”

Conor Daly had a disappointing session and starts the race from 20th place and speaking following the action he said:

Our teammate Rinus [VeeKay] did a great job. I could not quite find the grip that I needed. The team has given me a great car, the work they put in over the winter is really obvious. The car feels better than last year and I feel better as a driver. Not what we wanted out of qualifying for sure, but there’s a lot of positives over all. We’re going to go get after it tomorrow, the race is what matters!

Ed Carpenter Racing will field both Conor Daly and Rinus VeeKay full-time in the NTT IndyCar Series for the 2022 season which gets underway with the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg in less than three weeks time.

VeeKay, who had a breakthrough season last year, scoring his maiden IndyCar victory at the GMR Grand Prix of Indianapolis is back for his third season with the team and will be hoping to continue this momentum into the new season.

Daly who was recently confirmed as VeeKay’s full-time team-mate following spells with Carlin over the past two years will be hoping that the continuity of working with the team at ECR will assist him this season.

As for what team owner Ed Carpenter will do this year, it remains unclear, the American has said that he will confirm his plans for this season at a later date but Paddock Eye understands that he plans to compete in the 106th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge in May.

Daly Joins Ed Carpenter Racing Full-Time In 2022

Ed Carpenter Racing announced on Friday morning that Conor Daly has been elevated to a full-time drive with the team for the 2022 NTT IndyCar Series season, driving the No.20 BitNile Chevrolet alongside Rinus VeeKay who returns to the No.21 SONAX Chevrolet.

Speaking about the news, Daly said:

“Being chosen to represent BitNile is without a doubt one of the most important opportunities of my career. This is an incredible partnership that we look forward to being able to strengthen and grow as we go after race wins together! “To be able to come back to Ed Carpenter Racing for the full season is incredible. I haven’t had the chance to be with one team for the entire year since 2017, so this is something I am very, very thankful for. I have a lot of faith in ECR and each year we continue to get better together. I couldn’t be more excited to get on track in the BitNile Chevrolet!

BitNile Founder and Executive Chairman, Milton “Todd” Ault, III, has spent his entire career investing in undervalued assets and disruptive technologies. He believes joining in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES with Ed Carpenter Racing will yield similar rewards.

“I’ve been a fan of Indy car racing for a long time, and we are proud to have the opportunity to team up with Ed Carpenter Racing. It’s a natural fit for BitNile to join an Indiana business like Ed’s as we have a number of investments in the Midwest, including our mining facilities,” stated Mr. Ault. “BitNile operates with a ‘Risk On’ philosophy where risk is an integral element if you want to win. Conor Daly and ECR share that mindset, making us in perfect alignment.”

Ed Carpenter Racing may confirm a third car for the oval races for team owner Ed Carpenter at a later date.

The 2022 NTT IndyCar Series season-opening Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg gets underway from February 25-27.
