The World Cup Is Just One Year Away

The FIFA World Cup is exactly 365 days away and to mark the occasion FIFA President Gianni Infantino Formula One CEO, Stefano Domenicali amd FIA President Jean Todt were pictured together at today’s inaugural Qatar Grand Prix which was won by seven-time and defending champion Lewis Hamilton.

Qatar will host the FIFA World Cup in 2022 while Formula One has signed a deal with the Qatari government to host a Grand Prix for ten years from 2023.

Todt and Infantino were pictured together on the grid ahead of the 57 lap race with Domenicali holding the Formula One Drivers Championship trophy while Infantino was holding the World Cup trophy.

Wolff Explains Reasoning Behind One Year Hamilton Contract Extension

Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team Principal and CEO Toto Wolff has explained that the Silver Arrows want to see where the world is at following the conclusion of the 2021 Formula One season before committing to a longer term contract with Lewis Hamilton.

The Mercedes team announced on Monday, following months of speculation that seven time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton has signed a one year contract extension with the Brackley based outfit.

Speaking to the media on Monday following the announcement, Wolff revealed that the one year contract was agreed upon by both the team and the driver and they will assess the situation further during the 2021 season.

Hamilton, who joined Mercedes from McLaren in 2013 will once again drive alongside Finland’s Valtteri Bottas.
